Kids clubbing: B2
Although names like Kitaisky Lyotchik Dzhao Da, B2 and Byblos may bring to mind packed dancefloors, pounding music and fickle face control, trendy Moscow nightspots have a kinder, gentler side; namely, an assortment of afternoon children’s programs that take place before the night’s partying begins.

For instance, at Byblos — where on Friday and Saturday nights the average punter is likely to be turned away and told it’s members-only — on weekend afternoons kids can not only confidently pass face control, but also jump on a trampoline and play on swings before being entertained by a host of merry clowns, live animals and a magician. Since playing can be hungry work, a buffet is included. Adults can leave their children with a nanny (included in the price of entry), while they check out Byblos’ sports bar, comfy relaxation area and sushi restaurant.

Located in a huge building that formerly served as a military institution, club B2 is known as one of the best live-music venues in Moscow, hosting various artists from around the globe — but on weekend afternoons, rockers clear out to make room for a kids’ buffet and entertainers leading children in singing, dancing, drawing and working with clay.

B2: bring on the clowns!
Every first and last Sunday of the month, you can give your kids an early start in the art of clubbing at Kitaisky Lyotchik Dzhao Da. The entertainment program consists of puppet shows and children’s plays — but later, after fueling up with selections from the special kids’ menu, your ankle-biters can hit the dancefloor for several hours of movin’ and groovin’.

For those parents seeking to steer their progeny in a bohemian direction, Project OGI opens its doors to kids every Sunday afternoon, with a special show, creative activities like clay shaping, flower arranging, drawing and singing, and a kids’ menu.

Even if you’re stuck in a dormitory suburb, don’t despair — you might still find some clubbing action nearby. At Shchyolkovskaya, the eatery and nightclub Magnit changes its name to the more diminutive “Magnitik” on Saturday and Sunday afternoons — so steer clear unless you’re into singing and storytelling clowns. Kids can take their turn on the karaoke mike, hit the dancefloor and stuff themselves with ice cream from the kids’ menu. There are even special programs for mini clubbers in the 2- to 3-year-old age bracket.

In the city’s south, there’s the Hot Rod Bar in the Kaluzhskaya metro area, which opens a special kids’ room on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. You’ll find toys and games galore, performances of stories like Little Red Riding Hood, and a kids’ menu.

All of the above venues cater to individuals as well as groups. Since a venue might already be booked, calling in advance is recommended.
