On Wednesday nights, Propaganda is returning to its more democratic and easy-going roots. Together with DJ Zig-Zag, Epik Soundsystem is orchestrating a repositioning of the club’s music policy, shifting from an emphasis on house and garage to a more diverse range of Afro-Brazilian vibes, soul funk and up-tempo jazz. The nights, which have been named “People” in reference to a more open nature, feature video clips and slide-show collages of cult music figures. Proceedings start at 9pm, with DJ Zig-Zag spinning alongside saxophonist Alexander Gerasimov. Epik Soundsystem takes over at 1am. The reaction of the audience to a series of trial runs has been encouraging. “They see us as a bit like aliens at first,” said promoter and DJ Alexei Nikolayev, “but they soon come round to the idea and, by 3 o’clock, most are on the floor having a good time.”
