Tired of Christmas trees draped with cliched tinsel and mass-produced decorations? To see how much more creatively glossy magazines’ art directors can decorate a yolka, head to Moscow State University’s Aptekarsky Botanical Gardens. Through December and the first half of January, the gardens are hosting an exhibition of Christmas trees — or, more correctly, New Year’s yolki. Designers from magazines such as Jalouse, Seasons, Elle Decor and others are to create 11 “trees” from various materials, such as glass and cardboard. To add to the fun, a 5,000-square-meter skating rink is to be set up. The exhibition and skate rink are scheduled to run 10am to 7pm on Monday to Wednesday and until midnight on Thursday through to Sunday, with music starting after 7pm. The exhibition continues until Jan. 15.
